After taking 2 months off following 8 years of straight grinding as a doctor, I'm starting to understand what he meant.

Honestly? I don't know if I can go back to the way things were.

Hidden Opportunities

During my break, I got a random call from someone I'd worked with years ago. Completely out of the blue. They were offering support on a new project.

Then more calls came. People asking me to collaborate on clinical work I actually cared about.

I wasn't even looking. They found me.

There are way more opportunities out there than you think. You just can't see them when your head is down.

You're Underpaid

Here's something that hit me hard: I could make the same money in 2 weeks doing locums that took me a month at the university.

Let that sink in.

Life Exists

Some people go 20 years without a single real break. I can't imagine that.

We're taught to grind until retirement. But what if small sabbaticals along the way are the actual answer?

New Paths

Before this break, I had my head down. Tunnel vision. Just surviving.

Now? I'm seeing paths I didn't even know existed. Taking time off opens you up to things you never thought possible.

The Takeaway

If you've been grinding nonstop and wondering if there's more out there, there is. You just can't see it when you're drowning in the day-to-day.

Freedom has a way of showing you what you've been missing. It reveals opportunities, exposes what you're actually worth, and reminds you that life exists outside of work.

Take the break. Even a small one.
